Knowles Introduces CLS Flatpack Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors

Knowles has expanded its Cornell Dubilier capacitor portfolio with the introduction of the Type CLS Flatpack aluminum electrolytic capacitors, rated for operation at temperatures up to 105°C. The new series targets low-profile, high-density power supplies and other applications that require substantial bulk capacitance in a compact footprint without a 125°C temperature rating.

The CLS series extends the existing Flatpack product range, which includes the MLPS series rated to 85°C and the MLSG series rated to 125°C. By adding a 105°C option, Knowles provides an additional performance point for designers seeking a balance between temperature capability, capacitance density, and package size.

The new capacitors have completed 10,000 hours of endurance testing at 105°C, supporting applications where long-term reliability is a key requirement. According to Knowles, the devices are intended for high-density commercial power supplies, military-grade systems, and other mission-critical equipment.

The Type CLS capacitors use a low-profile stainless-steel case designed to support thermal dissipation. The construction is intended to improve efficiency and long-term operating performance while providing a compact solution for systems with limited available space.

Across the broader Flatpack family, devices are available with voltage ratings up to 300 V and capacitance values up to 83,000 µF. The capacitors are designed to withstand demanding operating conditions, including vibration, shock, and high ripple currents, making them suitable for applications requiring mechanical and electrical robustness.

A range of low-profile stainless-steel case sizes and mounting configurations provides additional design flexibility. By integrating high bulk capacitance into a single compact component, the Flatpack approach can reduce the number of PCB connection points and simplify system integration.

Hermetic and near-hermetic sealing options are also available within the product family, supporting extended operating life and increased tolerance to vibration. With the addition of the 105°C CLS series, Knowles further expands its capacitor offering for compact, high-density power designs where conventional capacitor solutions may be less suitable.
