Bosch Expands U.S. SiC Manufacturing with Roseville Investment

Bosch has reached a definitive funding agreement with the U.S. Department of Commerce under the CHIPS Program Office, securing up to USD 225 million in direct funding to support the company’s planned investment of up to USD 2 billion in its semiconductor manufacturing facility in Roseville, California. The project is focused on establishing large-scale production of silicon carbide (SiC) power semiconductors, with commercial manufacturing scheduled to begin in 2026.
The Roseville site has already entered the sample production phase, marking an important milestone in Bosch’s strategy to expand domestic semiconductor manufacturing in the United States. The facility, which has more than four decades of semiconductor manufacturing experience, is being upgraded with new cleanroom infrastructure and advanced production equipment to support the fabrication and testing of SiC devices on 200 mm wafers using Bosch’s proprietary technology.
Silicon carbide semiconductors are increasingly used in electric vehicles, renewable energy systems, and industrial power electronics because of their lower switching losses, higher operating temperatures, and improved efficiency compared with conventional silicon devices. Establishing local manufacturing capacity is also expected to strengthen supply chain resilience while providing North American automotive and industrial customers with a domestic source of advanced power semiconductors.
Bosch acquired the Roseville wafer fabrication facility in August 2023, following its earlier announcement that year. Rather than building a new manufacturing site from the ground up, the company has accelerated deployment by modernizing an existing fab and retaining its experienced workforce. In parallel with infrastructure upgrades, Bosch has invested in employee training and integration with its global semiconductor manufacturing network to support the transition to silicon carbide production.
The Roseville facility represents Bosch’s first semiconductor manufacturing site in the United States and forms part of the company’s broader strategy to expand its U.S. manufacturing footprint. Bosch currently operates 20 manufacturing facilities across the country and employs approximately 10,000 people in U.S. production activities.
Looking beyond the Roseville project, Bosch plans to invest up to USD 7.5 billion across its U.S. operations by 2031. The expansion reflects the company’s long-term commitment to domestic manufacturing and to increasing production capacity for technologies that support electrification, energy efficiency, and next-generation automotive and industrial applications.
