Celus Adds Agentic AI Workflow to Its Electronics Design Assistant

Embedded

Celus has unveiled an agentic AI workflow for its Design Assistant, launched last year as part of the Celus design platform. The new workflow is designed to reduce revision rounds and design issues late in a design project.

The workflow helps hardware engineers to plan the system architecture and component selection at the start of an electronics design before schematic capture, with engineer approval. It is available in beta on the CELUS Design Platform.

With the new agentic workflow, engineers no longer have to plan the architecture by searching through datasheets, distributor searches, and general-purpose chatbots, which requires manual checks against a datasheet. The Design Assistant handles the planning and research, while the engineer makes the decisions.

Celus said the trade-off is that each request takes longer than a single prompt, since the assistant plans and checks its work first.

Here's how it works. The assistant records the engineer's product description and answers to questions about interfaces, power budget, cost, and compliance in an "intent document" with a step-by-step plan. The engineer can stop and edit at any step or approve the plan.

Next, the assistant creates a system block diagram and researches the components with citations from datasheets or specifications for each recommendation. It then proposes fixes for any errors reported and compares the design against the requirements in the intent document, flagging any requirements that it does not meet. The assistant also finds substitutes for expensive or long-lead-time parts, ranking them by price, lead time, or preferred supplier.

The block diagrams, reference schematics, and bill of materials can be exported to existing tools, including Altium Designer, KiCad, Siemens EDA (Xpedition) or Autodesk Fusion.

More than 60,000 engineers in more than 100 countries use the design platform, with a library of more than 560,000 components, according to Celus. Partners include NXP Semiconductors, Würth Elektronik, and Siemens EDA. NXP recently announced that it offers the Celus technology through its NXP Block Diagram Designer.
