Qt Group Introduces Clate for AI-Powered Embedded UX Design

Qt Group has announced Clate, a design tool developed specifically for user interface and user experience (UI/UX) design on embedded devices. Introduced at Qt World Summit 2026, the platform combines a no-code workspace with AI-native features to help designers create functional interfaces for real-world hardware, including systems with limited processing power and memory.
Unlike general-purpose web and mobile design tools, Clate is designed around the constraints of embedded systems. Interfaces created for smartphones and web applications may not translate efficiently to resource-constrained devices, and some existing embedded design workflows require extensive code editing that can limit designers' control over the user experience.
Qt aims to close this gap by letting designers move beyond static visual mock-ups and define interface behavior within the design environment. Research previously published by Qt Group found that 59% of surveyed embedded UX designers believed they would benefit from a new design tool.
Clate incorporates natural-language prompting for tasks such as generating screens and modifying designs. Its Model Context Protocol (MCP) support also enables connections with other design and productivity tools, allowing AI-assisted workflows to integrate with existing processes.
The platform supports interactive UI development through configurable variables, data bindings, animations, and user interactions. Designers can also monitor performance indicators, including real-time frame rate and memory footprint, helping them evaluate how an interface behaves under embedded hardware constraints.
The design environment includes features familiar to UI designers, such as an infinite canvas, hierarchy trees, asset management, component libraries, and context-sensitive property controls. The goal is to let designers manage interface structure and behavior without extensive manual code editing.
For development teams, Clate generates production-ready QML code. QML is a declarative language for building user interfaces in the Qt ecosystem. This output directly from the design workflow is intended to reduce duplicated work between designers and developers, letting software engineers build on the delivered interface rather than recreate it from visual specifications.
Clate is launching in beta, with the full feature set planned for early 2027. Initial capabilities include the no-code workspace, AI assistants, integrations, and QML code generation. Hardware-focused optimization features, including frame-rate and memory-consumption checks, are scheduled to follow shortly after the initial release.
Further information and beta access are available through the Qt Clate website.
