STMicroelectronics Launches QML-V Qualified LVDS Receiver.

STMicroelectronics has expanded its space-grade semiconductor portfolio with the RHFLVDS42, a QML-V-qualified quad low-voltage differential signaling (LVDS) receiver for high-speed data links in aerospace and space systems. The device combines data rates up to 600 Mbps with low power consumption, radiation tolerance, and enhanced electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection.

Operating from a supply voltage of 2.3V to 3.6V, the RHFLVDS42 complies with TIA/EIA-644 and relevant JEDEC low-voltage logic and power-supply requirements. It also maintains compatibility with legacy CMOS designs, supporting integration into existing electronic systems. Its input common-mode voltage range extends from -4V to +5V, helping maintain reliable signal reception in electrically noisy environments. An absolute maximum voltage rating of 4.8V further improves resilience to power-supply transients.

The receiver is designed to withstand demanding radiation conditions. According to STMicroelectronics, it provides single-event latch-up (SEL)-free operation at a linear energy transfer (LET) of 122.6 MeV ·cm²/mg and single-event transient (SET)- and single-event upset (SEU)-free performance at 61.3 MeV ·cm²/mg. It qualifies under the Radiation Hardness Assurance (RHA) QML-V framework for total ionizing doses up to 300 krad (Si). The device also provides 8kV ESD immunity.

STMicroelectronics manufactures the RHFLVDS42 at its Rennes facility in France using 130nm CMOS technology, which the company says it has used in space-related applications for more than a decade. Its EAR99 export classification can help simplify international supply-chain arrangements, including those involving organizations in the United States and Asia.

The device supports an operating temperature range of -55°C to +125°C and is housed in a grounded-lid, hermetic Flat-16 package. Its flow-through pinout is intended to reduce crosstalk and improve PCB layout efficiency. For systems with particularly strict size and weight constraints, STMicroelectronics also offers a bare-die option.

The RHFLVDS42 targets space and aerospace systems that require high-speed differential data transmission, radiation robustness, reliable operation, and compact integration.
