Vector, SCSK Simplify RL78/F2x Embedded Software Development

Embedded

Vector Informatik GmbH and SCSK Corp. have developed a joint evaluation bundle for embedded sensor and actuator applications based on Renesas RL78/F2x microcontrollers (MCUs). The package combines Vector's MICROSAR IO with SCSK's QINeS-Lite software platform and device drivers, providing a pre-integrated software foundation intended to reduce initial setup and integration work during application development and evaluation.

MICROSAR IO is designed for sensor and actuator applications running on MCUs with limited hardware resources. Its lightweight architecture is intended to reduce software complexity and development effort while providing the basic software functions required for embedded I/O applications. By combining it with SCSK's QINeS-Lite platform, developers can evaluate a more complete software environment without having to integrate the individual components from scratch.

QINeS-Lite is a lightweight automotive software platform developed for small-scale electronic control units (ECUs). It targets edge ECU applications and provides functions supporting high-speed communication, over-the-air software updates, cybersecurity, and diagnostics. These capabilities address software requirements increasingly found in distributed automotive architectures while remaining targeted at resource-constrained ECU implementations.

The SCSK drivers included in the evaluation bundle are based on the open Chiisai specification. They complement MICROSAR IO by providing the hardware abstraction layer required for applications using Renesas RL78/F2x MCUs. This combination separates application software from the underlying MCU hardware and provides a defined interface between the software stack and the target device.

The pre-integrated approach is intended to accelerate early development and evaluation by reducing the effort required to establish communication between the software components and the RL78/F2x hardware. It can also provide a starting point for developing reusable software components for sensor and actuator functions.

The bundle targets embedded applications where processing resources, memory, and software footprint are constrained, while communication, diagnostics, security and update capabilities remain important. Vector and SCSK position the joint solution as a development foundation for edge ECUs and distributed automotive systems, including architectures associated with software-defined vehicles.

The MICROSAR IO evaluation bundle for Renesas RL78/F2x is available for customer evaluation through Vector. It provides developers with a combined software and driver environment for assessing sensor and actuator applications before progressing toward production-oriented embedded software development.
